All We Know About The “Horizon MMO” Rumored To Be In Development

Twitter/X user Kurakasis recently put his thoughts down on paper in the form of a Twitter/X thread detailing all there is to know about the current state of Project Skyline (a rumored Horizon MMO-RPG) lets break down and take a look over all the known info below.

Horizon

Project Skyline

The game is now essentially confirmed to be in development, as an NCSoft employee posted a job listing on LinkedIn with a codename logo stylized similarly to the logo of Horizon games.

  • It’s developed under the codename Project Skyline, with the initial codename being Project H
  • PC and Mobile
  • Unreal Engine 5
  • It is expected to launch significantly later than Aion 2, which is anticipated to be released in 2024/2025
  • The project is developed in Sung-Gu Lee’s ‘Lineage IP division’ and is led by Hong-Young Choi who previously was head of Lineage W development
  • The project started around 2021, according to a former NCSoft employee’s resumes on LinkedIn and Facebook
  • Around 140 people worked on the project in September 2023
  • This is a very significant number, comparable to other more advanced and already announced projects, such as Lineage M (136) and Lineage W (147)
  • As Twitter/X User Kurakasis previously reported, NCSoft registered a domain for what appears to be a game titled ‘Land of Salvation’. ‘Land of Salvation’ could POTENTIALLY be an official title for the Horizon MMO. This assumption is based on the fact that it is the only unannounced game we know of that could be revealed soon. Of course, it could be some other project we are not aware of

Horizon

The Horizon Series

The Horizon IP currently consists of two main games, Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. With a spin off VR game called Horizon Call of the Mountain. Totaling 32 copies sold across all of these titles making the IP a power player in the Sony’s portfolio. There is also a confirmed Live-action TV series based on the IP in the works by Playstation Productions targeting Netflix and its enormous audience.

Souce: Guerrilla

NCSoft

Some of this news might be confusing to some long term fans of Guerrilla’s IP, as this is the first time they have outsourced a supposed major release in the franchise to an outside studio like NCSoft. How ever this leak comes of the back of a recent partnership between Sony and NCSoft making this a likely partnership. The only part of this failing to make sense is the fact there is no mention of any Playstation ports while Mobile is specifically mentioned, this might indicate a shift in business strategy towards the mobile market and away from the console that gave the Horizon IP its claim to fame.
