Avowed’s New Direction

Avowed’s New Direction

Avowed’s new direction has caused some fans a shock in the latest announcement. The upcoming action role-playing video game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game was initially pitched as Obsidian’s take on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which has a massive open world. However, in the latest announcement they have changed course and taken an approach similar to Obsidians previous RPG titles. That means the game may not look or play like Skyrim moving forward, but the new direction could still appeal to a wide range of gamers.

Avowed's New Direction

A New Direction

Avowed‘s new direction is an action role-playing in first-person perspective. You will be in control of an envoy from the Aedyr Empire, who has arrived to a remote region named the Living Lands to seek further information on the plague. Wielding melee weapons, firearms and magic to defeat the enemies you face. As you become stronger you are able to customise your playstyle with several skill trees allowing for more powerful abilities. Weapons can also be individually upgraded. Avowed’s new direction won’t cater to those looking for an open world, however it will have large open zones throughout the story.

As you progress through the story, You will meet several NPC’s, the game features dialogue options which reflect the tone the player wants to convey. Some NPCs may become your companions, Each companion may have a different skillset and an attitude to boot. You can explore and complete quests with two companions at a time.

Fight your way, with Controller or Keyboard

The game is currently scheduled to be released in 2024 for Windows PC and Xbox Series X and Series S. This does not include Xbox One, Obsidian has mentioned that Avowed is specifically for next-gen consoles and powerful computers. This may seem like a while away. I’m sure that will come around fast as we’re already half way into 2023… Microsoft has also confirmed this will be coming to the Xbox Game Pass day one. Soon as the game comes out you’ll be able to jump in through your Xbox Game Pass membership. This also means that cross-play and cross-progression may also be included allowing you to have freedom on how you play.

Avowed’s gameplay rumours

Avowed has been rumoured to play on similar terms to The Outer Worlds, Avowed seems to be based on a similar, albeit enhanced engine from the Outer Worlds, complete with action-oriented first-person combat and deep RPG exploration and narrative systems.

As mentioned previously Avowed’s initial plan was similar to be like Skyrim, however with the new direction there seems to be some similarities there. Multiple class play styles, such as two handed combat system similar to Skyrim. Wielding two daggers and be a stealthy rogue or keep your distance with a two handed bow, but don’t forget the ability to wield some powerful spells and abilities. I am definitely keen to see more on the gameplay style and how I can customise my character.
