What kind of game is Ark Survival Ascended?
Like its older cousin, Ark Survival Evolved, Ark Survival Ascended is a survival, action, and MMORPG where players venture into a world of prehistoric beasts. The game is also a multiplayer platform. Predator and Prey alike, players get to see and feel what living in a world where giants roamed and monsters lived would be like. Ark Survival Ascended isn’t much of a far cry from the original game but there are notable differences.
Graphics
Behold! One of Ark Survival Ascended’s differences with its relative game. Graphics! Although the two games are very similar in gameplay and mechanics, they have two completely different graphical styles. Of course, the obvious, one is more updated with the Unreal Engine 5 while its older relative ran on the Unreal Engine 4. Despite their similarities, the two games both share the same assets in a way. With the new game, Ark Survival Ascended, there will be more realistic-looking environments, creatures, and of course, tools!
Aesthetics
Compared to the first Ark Survival, Ark Survival Ascended boasts an aesthetically pleasing set of tools and decorations. Of course, aside from decorations, the new games have a lot of better-looking items that fit more of that survival and prehistoric feel. With the updated aesthetics of the game, players get to be more immersed in surviving in a world where giants live among humans. The rustic and primitive feel of everything matches well with Ark Survival Ascended’s more realistic graphics. Even the smallest details as having soup in the food pot or more weathering on the rood benches and crafting tables go a long way!
The engine and physics
As previously mentioned, the game runs on Unreal Engine 5 rather than its older version’s engine, Unreal Engine 4. This gives the game more potential to look better and achieve that ultra-realistic look and feel to boost its immersive title. The game is also complete with cross-platform modding as well as anti-cheat and hey! Dynamic Water! Creatures now create waves in the water once they enter. Think that’s a cool addition? Along with the new physics and graphics changes, Ark Survival Ascended now has realistic lighting where everything pops as light bounces off of surfaces more realistically.
This was made possible with Globally Illumination or “Lumen”. There is also updated foliage and plantlife which brings more of the world to life.

Gameplay updates
In some parts of the gameplay, not much has changed. Players can design their survivors to make them more unique and exclusive to the players. Aside from that, players can also form a tribe and build their groups and bases to form a small village. Ark Ascended also has Ark’s original maps which include Scorched Earth, Aberration, ARK Genesis Part 1, ARK Genesis Part 2, Extinction, and more. In future updates, more and more maps will be added along with expansions.
The survival experience is better than ever. Players must watch their temperature, food, water, weather changes, and all their other needs. Ride dinosaurs to get around faster, hunt together as a group, or live a solitary life in the harsh world of kill or be killed. Players can also tame, breed, and train their dinosaurs to increase their strength, numbers, and stamina. Gain their loyalty!
With the added changes in gameplay, the developers also added photo mode with the new camera system. Capture your endeavors and document your own story. The player interface has also been redesigned to benefit players and their experience. The exciting part is creature pathfinding! Ark’s new installment game now has a better intelligent creature pathfinding system along with a new map and tracking system. With its new and improved systems, players now have less trouble finding their way and tracking their targets.
New creatures
In Ark: Survival Ascended, there will be wild babies along with brand-new creatures to discover and tame. Some may not be as easy to defeat and tame.
There are a bunch of new creatures that will be spotted in the game such as the giant Fasolasuchus, a reptile-like creature that resembles the real world’s Crocodiles, Dreadnoughtus a giant long-necked creature that largely towers above the human, Gigantoraptor a tall and lanky bird-like creature that sure looks quite dangerous, and much more.
