The Fractured Plains in Runescape: Dragonwilds is a central point of the Primary Questline. Here, you’ll find many dangers, some interesting detours, and a very angry Dragon general. However, you’ll also find not one, but two Vaults in this region. As a result, we’ll be providing assistance to get through the Vaults in this Fractured Plains Vaults walkthrough.
Entrances to the Fractured Plains Vaults
Both the Vaults in Fractured Plains are not as simple and out in the open as the Temple Woods, for example. However, if you know what you’re looking for – you’ll find it just fine. The South-West Vault (Takla Kara) is located at the nearly-highest point of the mountain, behind destroyable boulders. Whereas the North-East Vault (Skeklac Kara) requires a mini-puzzle completion to open. The central “Vault” on the map image above, is not an actual Vault, but rather a boss fight arena for the Dragon Slayer questline. In-game, the North-East Vault is not readily visible on the map, however, you can discover everything and more on our interactive map.
Fractured Plains North-East Vault Walkthrough (Skeklac Kara)
Unlike other Vaults, this particular Vault has quite a lot going on just outside of it. And on top of that – it’s sealed shut. Fortunately, there is a way to unseal the Vault.
Seal Statues
There is a total of 4 statues to find that act as a key to unlocking the Vault. There is no order to them, but knowing where they are helps.
The statues look similar to the Dragonkin Effigy statues you’ll find throughout most later Vaults and even as decorative statues in various locations.
Once all four statues have been interacted with – a seal breaks somewhere. This “somewhere” happens to be the vault entrance, just north of statue 4 on the above image. As a result, head up there and enter the Vault.
North-East Vault (Skeklac Kara) Vault Core 1
Upon entering you’ll notice pretty quickly there is a TON of spiky, exploding plants. These plants explode on proximity, as a result, using ranged weapons such as a Bow or a Staff can effectively deal with these plants before reaching them. Failing that, simply baiting their explosion and running/rolling away works too! Head through the left path of the cave, crossing over a small portion of water. To the right of the water is a secret room blocked by an exploding plant and boulders. This type of room usually contains additional Ores or materials. Continue onward through the doorway and take a right. This’ll lead you to your first Vault Core – surrounded by dangerous exploding plants no less!
North-East Vault (Skeklac Kara) Vault Core 2
Advance along the same pathway after collecting the Vault Core until you reach a very large, open room.
Heading straight up the path to the higher part of the room leads you to a dangerous little area with 3 Vault Guardians to fight at once. As a result, proceed with caution. There is a small waterfall at the top after defeating them, hiding a boulder-blocked room with materials. Once you’re done, head on through into the next corridor.
Straight ahead after defeating the Vault Guardians, above you to the left is a secret jump room! This room contains the second Vault Core and requires the use of “Windstep” to reach it.
North-East Vault (Skeklac Kara) Vault Core 3
Shortly after this room is the lever room, leading into the main room like usual and finally, the “boss room”. Pull the lever and head into the final room.
In the final room, between you and the third Vault Core stands both a Vault Archon AND Vault Overlord. As a result, this fight can be very tricky and should be approached with patience. Eventually, after defeating and kiting both – head up and pick up your third Vault Core!
Granite Mauled Quest Granite Maul
If you’ve picked up the quest “Granite Mauled” from Doric (located South of the Vault we’re investigating currently, as far East as possible from the central Tower), you’ll also be able to collect a Blueprint for the Granite Maul. The Blueprint is collected directly from the Effigy statue right next to the Vault Core.
Congratulations, you’ve cleared the North-East Fractured Plains Vault!
Fractured Plains South-West Vault (Takla Kara) Walkthrough
The entrance to the South-West Vault can be found behind destroyable boulders on the map location seen on our interactive map. Enter the Vault and begin your journey!
South-West Vault (Takla Kara) Vault Core 1
Start by taking the only path available to you in the Vault. Immediately to your left, there is a weakness in the wall you can break with your pickaxe – leading to some materials and other goodies in a chest.
Follow the path along, through the rocky room. You’ll reach a pathway with a dead-end right turn with a chest, and then a left turn with a spike trap. After looting the chest on the right, head through the left path and through the spike trap.
Dragonkin Effigy 1
Directly across the spike trap – as seen in the photo above, there’ll be your first Dragonkin Effigy statue of the Vault. This Effigy contains the “Paladin’s Platebody” recipe. After collecting the Platebody recipe, turn back and take the left of the spike trap instead.
Dragonkin Effigy 2
One pathway has a crouch-through rock section that leads to a weakened wall, and several gatherable materials. However, it is a dead-end. As a result, once you’re finished, crouch back through and take the remaining path. The path will lead you to a fairly open room, with a second Dragonkin Effigy statue directly ahead.
This particular Effigy unlocks the recipe for the “Paladin’s Helm”. Head up the stairs to find a chest and the first Vault Core of the Vault!
South-West Vault (Takla Kara) Vault Core 2
Continue on through the upstairs doorway next to the Vault Core, passing through the spike traps. You’ll want to take a left here, however, there is a chest just tucked in to the right of the path too. Eventually, you’ll come across an open area room, with some jumping required.
Jump across the platforms to the first Vault Guardian Sentinel. After defeating it, use “Windstep” to take a jump to the left – you’ll quickly see the second Vault Core sitting above! This Vault Core requires another use of “Windstep” to reach easily.
Dragonkin Effigy 3
As can be seen in the photo above, the third and final Dragonkin Effigy is off to the right of the Vault Core in this same room. As a result, head on over – platforming carefully to claim the recipe for “Paladin Platelegs”
South-West Vault (Takla Kara) Vault Core 3
Now that you’ve found the three Dragonkin Effigy statues, head back towards the pathway below the jump-up point for the previous Vault Core. Heading back this way leads you to the lever room, as a result, pull the lever and head to the final room of the Vault.
Directly inside the final room, there is a Vault Guardian Sentinel and a Vault Archon protecting the third and final Vault Core. Once defeated, collect your Vault Core!

Wild Scout’s Shortbow Recipe in Runescape: Dragonwilds
In the same room as the third Vault Core, located to the right of the room, is a fourth Dragonkin Effigy statue. Interacting with this statue unlocks the “Wild Scout’s Shortbow” recipe.
Congratulations, you’ve completed the South-West Vault (Takla Kara)! As a result, both Fractured Plains Vaults are now cleared.
