Basic Crafting

Crafting in Dune: Awakening starts off small. Before you can really start creating all the stations you need to push forward, you’ll need the initial tools and utilities to make them.

You’ll need a Basic Construction Kit to get you started, the bundle contains every basic station to kickstart your life on Arrakis. Simply equip the Construction Tool to your hot-bar and hold it out to start building & creating stations to craft from.

Research

Research is crucial for unlocking and progressing your ability to craft gear, better stations, higher quality shelter and more.

Schematic bundles are separated into several categories:

  • Water Discipline
  • Combat
  • Construction
  • Exploration
  • Unique

Within these categories is many sub-catagories, for example, Copper, Iron and Steel products. However, a lot of schematics in the Research tab are not stations that craft other items, in-fact, quite a few of them are items that become craft-able in other stations.

Intel

Intel is the “currency” required to unlock schematics in the Research tab. You can gain Intel by leveling up your character or occasionally can collect hidden Intel in enemy camps. As a result, always be on the look-out for Intel – every point counts the later into the game you get!

Crafting Stations

Similarly to most Survival games, Dune: Awakening has both refining and creation-based stations to craft with. Each side of the crafting mechanic progressively upgrades into bigger and better stations, including some additional specific stations. In our guide to crafting in Dune: Awakening, we’ll take you through each main Crafting Station & Refinery and their function.

Fabricators

Fabricator stations are the bread and butter of all your crafting needs. Each variation of a Fabricator exists to produce and craft items out of specific materials.

Fabricator

The standard Fabricator is your early game station, granting access to craft basic weaponry, armor, utilities and more. You can even craft your first bike! You’ll be utilizing the starting Fabricator a lot in the early game, so ensure you gather all the individual tools and pieces available. It’ll help transition into the mid-game a lot smoother.

Weapon Fabricators

Moving into the more advance crafting stations, you’ll see pretty quickly that there is a different station for each type of advanced items you want to craft. Weapons Fabricators act as a specific station for crafting weapons and ammunition – including rockets and incendiary items.

Advanced Weapons Fabricator

The Advanced version of the Weapons Fabricator, accessible much later into the game provides access to crafting missiles and top-tier tech to conquer Arrakis with.

Garment Fabricator

With a Fabricator specifically made for weapons, it comes as no surprise that there is also a Garment Fabricator. This’ll be your go-to for mid-game Stillsuits and powerful armor. It is worth noting that all advanced tech requires additional power installation to function.

Advanced Garment Fabricator

The ultimate armor provider, this is your late-game station for top-tier Armor options.

Other Fabricators

Survival and Advanced Survival Fabricator

The Survival Fabricator is a station used to craft utilities to assist with exploration, mining and – as mentioned in the name – survival! Here you’ll be able to craft higher tier Cutters for mining, better medicines and more.

Vehicle Fabricator

For all of your vehicle needs for you (or your crew), this Fabricator has it all for you. While you’ll initially be able to craft your first bike through early game stations, the Vehicle Fabricator will be required if you want to craft more than just your standard bike. For example, both the standard and advanced Vehicle Fabricator can craft a Buggy – or even a Ornithopter!

Refinery Stations

To be able to craft, you must first refine the materials gathered throughout your journeys. To do so, you’ll need Refinery Stations of various types based on the material you want to refine for crafting.

Ore Refinery’s

The Ore Refinery is the right station to be at if you’re back from a mining expedition. Here, you’ll utilize the station to refine raw ore into Ingots of various qualities. For example, the Small Ore Refinery can smelt and refine Copper, Iron and Steel ingots. As a result, crafting a few of these stations will help to kickstart your material stock-pile.

The Medium Ore Refinery specializes in producing Aluminum and Duraluminum Ingots from raw Aluminum and Jasmium ores. However, the Large Ore Refinery refines the highest tier of materials in Dune: Awakening, as you could probably expect. However, this end-game refinery also provides higher yield results with less raw material! It is very important to get these stations online as soon as possible later in the game to ensure success.

Chemical Refinery’s

The Chemical Refinery’s specialize in creating more of the man-made type of materials for items. For example, you can use the Small Chemical Refinery to produce Vehicle Fuel Cells or even Silicone Blocks.

A Medium Chemical Refinery produces similar items, however, at a much higher efficiency. The later you get into the game, the more you can produce for less cost – the better.

Spice Refinery’s

A Spice Refinery utilizes Arrakis’s most prized resource – Spice. There is three sizes of Spice Refinery:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large

The Small Spice Refinery processes Spice Sand into Spice Melange, which can be sold or used for more advanced crafting. Additionally, the Medium Spice Refinery produces the same Spice Melange but at a much higher efficiency. Finally, the Large Spice Refinery take efficiency one step further – providing by far the highest efficiency for creating Spice Melange. It is important to keep an eye on when you can upsize your stations in order to not miss out on efficiency!

Uniques

Crafting Uniques in Dune: Awakening requires Imperial Permits per craft. To craft Unique items – check out any of the above stations based on the Unique you wish to craft. For example, a Unique weapon is going to be craft-able at the Weapons Fabricator.
