NCSoft Management Update
NCSoft’s founder Kim Taek-jin’s family business empire is facing challenges as the game publisher undergoes a management overhaul to streamline its game business revenue.
Yoon Song-yee, Kim’s wife and NCSoft’s chief strategy officer, and Kim Taek-heon, Kim’s brother and chief publishing officer, are stepping down from their roles to focus on overseas operations, according to the company’s internal communication system on Tuesday.
Yoon will resume her positions as CEO of NCSoft West Holdings and chairperson of the NC Cultural Foundation, overseeing the company’s expansion into the Western market. Kim Taek-heon will manage foreign subsidiaries in Japan and Taiwan.
The company has also hired three chief brand officers to oversee its core intellectual properties and created a separate department to manage game development and legal affairs.
The game publisher has been struggling to find a hit game franchise since Lineage and formed a task force committee in October to find new revenue streams. Last month, it recruited outside member Park Byung-moo, former head of the Korean private equity firm VIG Partners, to co-lead the company alongside Kim Taek-jin.
