Secret of the Grave Commendation
The Secret of the Grave commendation is awarded to you when you discover the hidden secret of Sailor’s Grave. This will require you to complete all the previous parts of the six-part side quest series in order to get to this stage.
Below are the commendations needed to complete in order.

Starting Secret of the Grave Commendation
To be able to start the Secret of the Grave commendation, you must complete the previous commendation, Ship of Thieves. As this is a continuation from the 4th part of the quest series.

After you have completed the Ship of Thieves commendation, which unlocks the ships door, then it’s time to start Secret of the Grave.
The Ships Sails
Once you enter inside the ship’s locked door, you will notice lots of gold piles. Go ahead and pick them up for that extra bit of gold in your pocket.
Then make your way to the center part of the wrecked ship. You will notice there isn’t too much on there except one pulley which will adjust the sails of the boat.
Go ahead and turn the sails. You will need to make sure that the lighthouse that is in the distance is able to shine a light onto the brazier which is next to the ship.
As seen in the photos below, if it isn’t correct do not worry, you can come back here any time to adjust them.
The Lighthouse
Now that you have adjusted the sails, your next task is to use the green light at the lighthouse and ignite the brazier.
Depending on where you are in the ‘A Pirate’s Life‘ tall tale. You will need to get the green light activated.
In order to do this, you must bring the Cursed Captains Skull to the very top of the lighthouse and attach it to the lightkeepers skeleton.
Please Note – If you have came from our previous guide, Ship of Thieves then the Cursed Captains Skull will be back at the Gamblers’ Den, waiting for you. If you have misplaced the skull, then it will be back at the cage when you first lowered it down.
Grab the Captain’s skull and head over to the lighthouse. You will get to a stone bridge. As you’ve got the skull in your hand, the torches will light up green and the bridge will start appearing.
Make your way across the bridge and to the top of the lighthouse, you will notice two skeletons (one without a head), stick the Cursed Captain’s skull onto the light keeper’s body. He will explain how you can summon the ferryman.
Climb the ladders behind you and use your lantern to ignite the lighthouse brazier.
A bright green beam will appear. If you was doing the main story quest, then you will need to use this beam to light the three braziers out on the island opposite you.
But as you are doing the Secret of the Grave commendation, we just want to light the new and now visible brazier that you discovered when turning the sails.
Lighting the Brazier
As seen in the image below, there are 2 wheels on the light; one controls the rotation of the beam and the other controls the pitch.
Use the beam of light to ignite the brazier. To do this, look in the east direction where you started the quest. You will notice a brazier in the far distance which was hidden behind the white sails of the ship.
Once you have lit the brazier. You will notice a domino effect where lots of small torches will light up in a sequence and light another brazier near the start of the Sailors’ Grave.
The Secret of the Grave
If you managed to follow the sequence of torches lighting up, you will notice in the north-east direction, another brazier will light up. This is where you will need to go.
In order to get to this location, you will need to go all the way back to the start of Sailor’s Grave. Which means you will need to go back down the lighthouse and go straight ahead, past the Cursed Captain Skulls cage as seen in the photos below.
If you are still unsure of the location, then you may have noticed when you first entered ‘Sailors Grave’ when you crossed the bridge. There was a sign that said Sailors Grave and on your right side was a stone bridge that had been inaccessible.
Once you have finally got to this location, you will have noticed that the bridge has been raised, and you can now walk across it. Thanks to the secret brazier being alight.
Make your way across the bridge and you will be awarded the Secret of the Grave Commendation.
Which will now allow you to get the 5 Headless Monkey’s Captain Journals for The Crew of the Headless Monkey commendation.
