Return to Moria: How to Kill Narag-Shazon the Dragon

Narag-Shazon the Dragon

Narag-Shazon, the fearsome dragon in Return to Moria, is the main boss to defeat. To defeat the dragon you need to make sure you have the right weapons and armor as well as the best food there is. In this guide we will guide you through each step to defeat Narag-Shazon.

Narag-Shazon the Dragon

Crafting the Shaz’akhnaman

The Shaz’akhnaman is your most potent weapon against Narag-Shazon. It has the power to inflict heavy damage on the dragon and around 4 to 5 hits can kill the dragon. To craft it, you’ll require specific materials:

  • Mithril: Can be found in the Mithril Mine Shaft
  • Diamonds: Can be found in Orkish Chests, Mined, and/or Dropped by Orcs
  • Ironwood: Can be obtained by destroying Furniture in Dwarrowdelf
  • Scales: Dropped by Fell Beast and Drakes
Crafting the Shaz'akhnaman

You cannot open the door to the boss fight area without crafting and holding the Shaz’akhnaman. So make sure you have all the necessary components.

Equipping Sturdy Armor

Consider which armor you will wear to protect you in the battle. Two excellent options are the Durin’s Armor set and the Mithril Armor set. These sets offer very good armor as well as more blue bars for protection.

Preparing Brews

Brews can help a lot with your defenses. Three great options are Evening Ale, Ironheart Stout and Miruvor.

Preparing Brews

Stocking Up on Rations

Given the high-damage attacks and passive damage from Shadow that Narag-Shazon unleashes, you’ll need to heal frequently. Make sure you have ample rations to restore your health. Be prepared to face Orcs and the ongoing damage from the Shadow, which necessitates consistent healing, even if you don’t make any mistakes.

Navigating to Narag Shazon’s Lair

Once you have all you need we can make our way to Narag-Shazon’s Lair. You will need to travel through The Domain of the Shadow Orcs and fight your way through.

Navigating to Narag Shazon's Lair

As you journey deeper, you’ll come across a small room after the Well of Shadow. Here, you’ll find the first of two damaged Map Stones. This spot can serve as a convenient place to set up a small Camp, allowing you to respawn closer to the boss fight in case you face defeat.

Building a Camp

Preparing for the battle involves creating a secure base of operations where you can regroup, heal, and strategize. Building a camp near the Domain of the Shadow Orcs is a wise move.

  1. Choose a Strategic Location: Find a spot just outside the Domain of the Shadow Orcs.
  2. Equip a Bedroll: A bedroll provides a convenient respawn point if you fall in battle.
  3. Utilize a Map Stone: This will help you navigate the treacherous terrain.
  4. Consider a Repair Smithy: To fix your armor when it gets damaged.

The Dragon’s Lair

The next room is where you’ll finally face Narag-Shazon. She is ensconced within a circle of spiked rocks, and the surroundings are swarming with Orcs and Wargs. While it may resemble a boss arena, it’s not. You cannot destroy the spikes or access the circle’s interior.

Breaking Through

Your mission is to circumvent the outside of the room and locate a door obstructed by several planks. You must break through these planks using a Weapon or Pickaxe. While doing this you will need to dodge Narag-Shazon’s attacks and fight the Orcs and Wargs that come your way.

Pursuing Narag-Shazon

The next stage of the battle unfolds with Narag-Shazon perched atop a cliff. To keep up with her, you’ll need to ascend quickly. Be prepared for an uncertain path and consider constructing Quick Platforms to expedite your ascent. Persevere until you reach the summit, where Narag-Shazon will withdraw down a lengthy corridor.
