Introduction
While mixing melee and magic is a little unconventional in Throne and Liberty, this particular build manages to pull it off exceptionally well. To allow this build to function correctly, there are a couple of combos and priorities to manage. One of our guild members regularly plays this build creating both ranged and magic pressure on the frontlines.
In Throne and Liberty, the Spellblade build can deal sustained damage from range while having the freedom to pick the perfect opportunity to strike, moving all-in and locking down a player dealing huge damage.
To fully understand the Staff and Greatsword PVP DPS build and what the weapon combination is capable of, we have to take a look at the skills.
Overview
Skills
Attributes
Below is the recommended attributes for our Throne and Liberty Staff and Greatsword PVP DPS build.
Strength
10
Dexterity
30
Wisdom
19
Perception
30
As a DPS build, stacking as far into Dexterity as you can (without spending double points for 1 stat) is a must to ensure you have as much maximum critical hit chance and damage as possible. Having some Wisdom increases our Cooldown Speed, Mana pool & regen and most importantly; maximum damage – alongside Dexterity. Perception only needs to be adjusted to meet a high enough chance for Stun and hitting mobs while levelling. This is due to Hit as a stat not being needed if you have enough Critical Hit to almost always Crit.
Once geared, try to start taking points out of Perception to reach 30 Wisdom while being somewhere around 45-55 Dexterity. Troublek’s Thunderous Soul and Magnaduke’s Berserk Blade both give a huge amount of free Dexterity to assist the build.
Actives Upgrade Priority
The Spellblade build juggles many priorities when it comes to skills, so many of them are crucial to the success of the build. However, the best way to start things out is to build out the bread-and-butter synergy spells. For example, Serial Fire Bombs + Chain Lightning. Precision Dash is without a doubt the most important skill to get to purple grade first, as it gains a passive that increases your Heavy Attack Chance by 16% for 3 seconds. This upgraded effect massively boosts your burst damage potential in your combo window.
Maxing out your Fire Bombs + Chain Lightning combo afterwards is a no-brainer for rotational purposes. Following up by upgrading the Stunning Blow and Death Blow follows a similar reasoning and opens up two of your easy combos into purple. At this point, DaVinci’s Courage is a great skill to upgrade next. DaVinci’s Courage is not only a team-wide support skill to increase Maximum Health and Health Regen, but is also a 15% attack speed steroid when upgraded to purple.
After boosting up all the main damage rotation spells and enablers, follow up with the mobility and utility skills as shown above. They’re very important too, however they come into play much later into the game.

Weapon Mastery
We recommend the following Mastery Trees for the Staff and Greatsword PVP DPS build:
Staff: Destroy Tree
Greatsword: Face-Off Tree
Passives Upgrade Priority
For the passives, the core two early game choices are Mana Amp and Robust Constitution. Both of these heavily increase your Maximum Health and Mana. However, when Mana Amp is upgraded to purple it also gives 1200 additional Maximum Health! These two passives as a result give great natural bulk to the build and help the playstyle come to life.
For all the Green grade abilities, start with Mana Amp and Robust Constitution and round out with the rest. The order above is ideal but it doesn’t matter too much.
The core passives to reach purple early outside of Mana Amp and Robust Constitution is Burning Condensation, Cold Warrior and Vital Force. Each passive provides major boosts to your strategy. Burning Condensation turns your burn DoTs into massive chunks of damage while Vital Force provides Hit, Stun Chance and Damage Boost per 100 current health you have!
Cold Warrior is without a doubt the key damage passive in the Spellblade build. Once it’s upgraded to purple, during a Stun or Shocked window you gain 300 Critical Hit and a huge 75 Heavy Attack Chance too! Both of these stats are crucial to the success of the build – do not underestimate this passive.
Finally, round out the passives with the more supportive/minor passives. There are many moving parts to the Staff and Greatsword PVP DPS build but once they all come together – it’s incredible.
Passive Skills
- Mana Amp
- Forbidden Sanctuary
- Mana Ball Eruption
- Burning Condensation
- Robust Constitution
- Anger
- Vital Force
- Cold Warrior
Rotation
The basic rotation is as follows:
- Fire Bomb x3 (if stationary)
- Inferno Wave
- DaVinci’s Courage (for the attack speed buff)
- Precision Dash (to proc Heavy Attack Chance)
- Stunning Blow
- Death Blow
- Chain Lightning
- Ascension Slash
- Judgment Lightning
- Valiant Brawl
- Smokescreening Frost (escape)
This rotation can mainly start from DaVinci’s in PvP scenarios as many players won’t give you the time to unleash Fire Bombs. However, you can just adjust the rotation as you learn to adapt. The general idea is to proc both Precision Dash and the Cold Warrior passive via Stunning Blow to unleash a flurry of Heavy Attacks, dealing x2 damage on EVERY hit. This build is very burst-heavy and relies on this window. Try to always have a major damage cooldown available with each Precision Dash and Stunning Blow use. When used correctly, the build can output insane damage within a small window. Once you have this rotation down, you’ll get to see the full force of the Staff and Greatsword PVP DPS build for yourself (and how fun it is too!)
Guardian
The Guardian choices come down to two situations. The first being GvG, in GvG Lady knight Kamarshea is fantastic due to the large shield you receive and cooldown reduction for your combos. The other situation is in smaller scale PvP instances. In this case, Shade Revenant Stheno is fantastic for huge damage on a single target or even split damage across a few targets. Both are great so the freedom to choose is there.
