Cooking System or how to cook in throne and liberty

Ultimate Cooking Guide – Throne and Liberty

Cooking in Throne and Liberty is essential for creating consumables that provide various buffs to your character. These buffs can enhance your combat abilities, increase resource-gathering efficiency, and more. You might overlook this system at first, but if you want to stay competitive, save Lucent or even earn some Lucent long term, you will want to engage with the Cooking System!

How to Start Cooking?

To begin your culinary journey, you’ll need to gather ingredients from various in-game activities, including harvesting, fishing, merchants, and Amitoi Expeditions. You can then head to any campfire or, better yet, a Cooking Oven, typically found in major cities or outposts.

Cooking System menu will show you all the recipes that are available in the game (some will be locked behind the level requirement) and what ingredients you need to cook each recipe. Here’s how you can acquire the most common cooking ingredients:

  • Harvesting and Looting: Chop down trees, gather plants, loot ingredients like meat and salt from defeated monsters and Cooking Baskets from open-world and special events
  • Fishing: Catch various fish for seafood recipes
  • Daily Merchant cooldowns: Check the Sundries Merchant for Eggs and other rare cooldown ingredients
  • Amitoi Expeditions: Amitois can bring you precious cooking ingredients from their adventures

It is wise to do a little bit of everything daily (harvesting, fishing and a few expeditions) to feel comfortable with your Cooking progression. If you absolutely cannot stand Life Skill content and related systems, you always have an option of buying the necessary food from the Auction House.

Cooking Recipes and Levels

Progressing in the Cooking profession is pretty straightforward – the more you cook the higher your level becomes, and new better recipes unlock. The maximum level you can reach in cooking is currently 25. Some recipes are easier to make than others and some will give you significantly more experience. The trick to leveling cooking as fast as possible is to find recipes that are easy to make in large quantities that also give a good amount of XP.

Initially, it’s a good idea to make a lot of Fried Egg, because eggs are easy to find by just visiting various Sundries Merchants in various regions every day. After level 8, transition into crafting Soft Steamed Bird Egg and sell any “Great Success” crafts via the Auction House early to earn a little bit of Lucent. This dish increases your Sollant drop rate by 50% so it’s a useful buff to have every time you go farming an Open World Dungeon.

Benefits of Cooking

The benefits of cooking are substantial. Very early in your Chef career, you will unlock recipes that will provide better and more tailored benefits than the default food items that the game gives you. Depending on the recipe, you can boost your health, movement speed, or even gain temporary boosts to critical hit rate, heavy attack, evasion or endurance. Other than specific combat benefits, there are also foods that increase your Mastery and item-grinding efficiency later on.

Many people overlook this, but you can have two combat food buffs running simultaneously – you can have one Utility food running (i.e. Max Health) and either one Attack food (i.e. Heavy Attack Chance) or one Defense food (i.e. Damage Reduction).

Optimizing Your Cooking Routine

To make the most of the Cooking system, focus on gathering a variety of ingredients daily, regularly check merchants for the daily cooldown ingredients (currently: Egg, Golden Rye and Honey) and experiment with different dishes to find the best combinations for your playstyle! The developers have recently changed Sundries Merchants to sell 30 eggs daily across all regions, so you don’t need to visit every region on the map to buy out different cooldowns.
