Why Customize Your HUD?
Customizing your HUD is crucial for optimizing your screen to suit your playstyle. Whether you’re focusing on PvP, healing, or simply trying to de-clutter your screen, tweaking your HUD can help you monitor essential information more effectively. Since every player’s preferences are different, this system allows you to experiment with layouts, resizing elements, and creating a workspace that suits your playstyle without any need for external add-ons.
Getting Started: Editing Your HUD
When you begin Throne and Liberty, the default HUD can feel a bit scattered. To start customizing:
- Open the “Escape” Menu (Side Menu) and select Edit HUD.
- This will bring up the main HUD editing interface, allowing you to move, resize, and adjust various panels.
Here are some key tips for reshaping your HUD layout:
- Resize HUD Elements: The HUD has different sizes (known as Tiers). The default is Tier 2, but you can go as small as Tier 1 for minimal clutter or even expand it for larger displays.
- Moveable Panels: Most panels, such as health bars, party menus, buff effects, and skill bars, are moveable. This flexibility allows you to organize information into more accessible zones.
Essential HUD Elements and Layout Tips
Customizing the layout involves trial and error, but here are some popular approaches and suggestions based on different roles:
1. Player HP and Buff Bars
- Default Position: Upper-left corner.
- Recommendation: Move it closer to the center of your screen or near your character model. This ensures that your HP and buffs are within your immediate field of view during intense combat situations.
2. Target and Enemy Info
- Default Position: Upper-center of the screen.
- Recommendation: Move the target info to the right or left of your character for faster recognition of enemy status, especially if you’re engaging in high-level PvP. You will also be able to see at a glance what weapons or abilities the enemy is using without looking too far from your character.
3. Party UI for Healers
- Default Position: Leftmost side of the screen.
- Recommendation: If you’re a healer, consider moving your party’s HP bars closer to the center or next to your target info. This makes it easier to manage both enemy target and ally health without constantly shifting your gaze across the screen.
4. Minimap
- Default Position: Top-right corner.
- Recommendation: Many players choose to leave the minimap in its default position. However, you can tuck it further into the corner or even hide it during large-scale PvP battles for more screen real estate.
5. Skill Bar Customization
- Default Position: Bottom-center.
- Recommendation: Move your skill bar closer to your character if you’re still learning your class and need to track cooldowns. Once you’re more experienced, you can move it to the bottom or hide it partially to free up more space.
Importing and Exporting HUD Presets
Once you’ve settled on your ideal layout, you can save your customizations as presets:
- Go to the HUD Editor and select the Save Preset option.
- Name your preset and confirm the save.
If you want to share your customized HUD with other players, or if you wish to try out someone else’s layout, follow these steps:
- Export Your HUD: From the HUD editor, press Export and name your file. This will save your HUD as a file in your game directory.
- Importing a HUD: To use a preset from another player, place the file in your Throne and Liberty HUD folder. The folder path will usually be C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\TL\UserHUD or similar
Advanced Customization Tips
1. Hiding Unnecessary Elements
Consider hiding unused User Interface elements away from the center of your screen. You don’t really monitor your “Return to Base” button (B by default), so you can hide it behind your mini-map! Another option is re-arranging your skill bars to cover the static lions on your Skills UI, which are there just for decoration. Once you are comfortable with the game and the Open-World Events, you can hide the Announcer text chat in the bottom right corner so it does not randomly pop up during the PvP events.
2. Making the quest log smaller
Unfortunately, there is no way to reduce the size of individual HUD elements at the moment. However, once you are more experienced with the game and find yourself using the quest log on the right-hand side less often, you can reduce the size of the whole UI to its smallest size (Tier 1) and this will also affect quest log size. It is recommended to keep the quest log on the right side of the screen because it rolls up into the top right corner when minimized and looks out of place when snapped to the left side of the screen.
